This ethnographic study examines how the Brazilian immigrant network developed in New Orleans from 2005's Hurricane Katrina to the present and how Brazilians "performed" their presence in their new home. While rebuilding a devastated city, Brazilians created a new enclave in New Orleans and created hybrid forms of Brazilian-New Orleanian cultural expression.

After a long career in literature, journalist, writer, and political activist Lewis MacAdams has released his latest, Dear Oxygen, New & Selected Poems, 1966-2011, chronicling his career from its origins to the contemporary. Gary Snyder calls it "a book awash with backwaters and broken concrete, bird and fish knowledge, hydrology and community hearings." Anne Waldman describes this collection as "a vivid lyrical romp through many tender shared realities."

Our Mission

The mission of the University of New Orleans Press is to support the goals of the the University of New Orleans as both a research institution and an urban university by publishing and disseminating scholarship and serious literary works that promote public understanding and enrich the culture of the region, nation, and international community.

We seek to publish innovative scholarship and creative work in a wide range of academic disciplines, literature, visual arts and music. We seek work that contributes to the rich cultural tradition of the New Orleans area and the region, as well as work that contributes to the intellectual and aesthetic life of academic and general audiences everywhere.

We are committed, also, to the University's goal of Internationalization, and to that end seek to publish translations of notable works, both scholarly and creative, written in languages other than English.

UNO Press is supported by the University of New Orleans, private grants, and the University of New Orleans Foundation.
