We are looking to publish the best novel/short story collection written this year.

Please submit your entire manuscript via Submittable. The selected author will receive a thousand dollar advance on royalties and a contract to publish with UNO Press. The work does not have to be regionally focused. UNO Press is based at the University of New Orleans and distributed by Hopkins Fulfillment Services. There is no word limit. There is no limit on subjects covered. Works of fiction (novels and short story collections) only. The contest is open to all authors, regardless of publishing history. Submission fee: $18.00.

We collect submissions from April 5 to August 15, deciding on 15-20 finalists. The finalists are read by students at our publishing institute in the fall of 2017, and one is chosen to become a book. The class will focus on making the book a critical and commercial success upon its release in the spring of 2018.

Abram Shalom Himelstein is the editor-in-chief at UNO Press.

The press will winnow the field in late August, and participants of the publishing institute will decide on the book at the end of September. UPDATE: Due to the high number of submissions we received this year, we will not be able to announce a winner until the middle of October 2017.

The selected manuscript will be promoted by The Publishing Laboratory at the University of New Orleans, an institute that seeks to bring innovative publicity and broad distribution to first-time authors. Hopefully the book becomes a hit. Either way, the book will have had a real chance and push toward the crowded marketplace.
